Haha..IMO, the Dems in congress need to do what the GOP did for Bush's first six tears in office. Unite, propose legislation, and then kick the GOP in the nuts until they comply....well, really, the only thing they haven't done out of that list is unite.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

If Abe Lincoln was a politician today, he'd be a Democrat too....the Democrats and Republicans has essentially traded identities they held in 1860. I realize that was something you quoted and I couldn't find the original quote...but every time I hear someone remind me Abe Lincoln was a Republican in an effort to promote the "virtues" of the GOP, I laugh in their face.

FYI Abe was a raving racist who introduced numerous bills to force blacks out of Illinois and even the country as a whole. He proposed to pay for the deportation of all blacks from the country even after becoming president.

One well known and often written about story is how several Union Generals left an important meeting with Lincoln furious that all he did the entire time was to tell racist jokes and never did get around to the dire issues of pressing war matters.

Honest Abe - "I have no disposition to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which in my judgment will probably forever forbid their living together on terms of respect, social and political equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there should be a superiority somewhere, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position;"

The Great Emancipator - "I will say then, that I am not nor have ever been in favor of bringing about in any way, the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not, nor have I ever been in favor of making voters of the negroes, or jurors, or qualifying them to hold office, or having them to marry with white people...there must be the position of superior and inferior, that I as much as any other man am in favor of the superior position being assigned to the white man."

Like I said, when folks try to use Abe Lincoln as a shining example of Republican "virtue", I laugh in their face. And BTW, I was referring to Lincoln's political stances, not his personal views or behavior. Don't forget that Lincoln was a backwoods politician...some things he said and did were prolly said and done for the sole purpose of presenting him to be "electable" as a politician in his day and age.

Did Lincoln think that whites were superior? Yup, like every single other person that lived during that time. Was Lincoln against slavery from day one? Sure was and his stance of hating it with a passion never changed.

ps. not "every single other person that lived during that time" believed in racial supremacy. In fact several of his own generals put down on paper their repulsion with his extreme rhetoric.

What the hell are you talking about? There's being a point where "being misinformed" turns into blatantly lying or just not knowing jack shit about something, you're there.

So we agree that a racist brought about some progress, even if he was one of the first terrorists- he allowed the raping of the southern cities. And the generals that spoke...did they stop the war?
We'll keep the lights on for you.

The majority of US citizens both North and South did believe in the supremacy of the white race at that time though. You can't deny that.
